Wem gehört der Himmel

Age recommendation: 14 years and older

The documentary film "Wem gehört der Himmel" uses an intersectional approach to question the binary concept of gender with questions about colonialism and capitalism. The starting point of the film are interviews with activists from the artistic and academic environment in Buenos Aires and Switzerland. They question the validity of the cis-hetero norm and the consequences of its enforcement based on the innovative gender identity law that was passed in Argentina in 2012 as a worldwide novelty. Under this, (trans) people could for the first time change their name and gender identity without further requirements within duality.

The theoretical discussion, with a focus on gender and system, is combined with performance scenes and actions from the art activist project die grosse um_ordnung, which took place on Zurich's Helvetiaplatz in 2018. The body is the central element in the question of identity. Social attributions are made based on it, but it can also become a political instrument that can question and change conditions.

Followed by a discussion with the filmmaker.
